[MCR] The Rockies - Junkyards rockfall

Public Mountain Conditions Report mcr at informalex.org
Sun Feb 8 17:26:47 EST 2015

A large microwave-sized rock bounced down the the main flow of the Junkyards today around noon while we were eating lunch below and out of the way at the staging area. We waited and watched for about 20 minutes to see if it was an isolated incident, then I cleaned our ropes and left. The continued warm temperatures are obviously exposing and lubricating loose rock that should be buried and frozen in place. Warm temperatures are forecasted most of the week so be aware of fresh choss melting out and teetering over ice climbs.
