[MCR] Rogers Pass Early Season Conditions

Public Mountain Conditions Report mcr at informalex.org

Here is a picture to support the Mountain Conditions Summary from earlier
this week suggesting that it is possible to find avalanches out there
right now. This is a Size 2 Avalanche observed yesterday from the highway
below Mt McDonald. Winds were gusting up to 80km/hr from the south at
treeline yesterday morning. The Fidelity Weather Station at 1900m has
about 50cm of snow on the ground with about 5cm at the highway. If you
have to go (and people are going), expect heavy snow in places, some wind
affected snow up higher, and obviously bony conditions. Best to avoid
glacier travel until you have good visibility and a strong rope team as
the warm summers have created very challenging travel through crevasses in
places where they wouldn't normally exist, particularly on the
Illecillewaet.

Take care,
