‎Just a quick heads up...
Parks Canada received quite a few reports of significant avalanches today that were both directly and remotely triggered by people ranging from size 1.5 and up to a reported size 3.
A short flight into Kootenay Park while on return from an evacuation today revealed extensive natural activity in that area much of which was in the last 24 hrs. This was seen mainly at treeline and alpine elevation bands and on North West through North East slopes although activity was noted on all aspects and a few examples were reported below treeline as well. Crowns are 40cm to over one meter deep, both recent windslabs and persistent slabs could be implicated although the persistent slabs seem to be the key player with some events clearly stepping down to the ground.
At least three separate reports came from the Highway 93 North zone as well with a size 3 on Bow Peak, a size 1.5 remotely triggered near Bow Falls or the Bow Hut approach, and signs of instability and a healthy size 2 avalanche observed near the Peyto approach.
This all follows many close calls over the previous week to ten days....
