[N&W] Re: Steam to Diesel/ Track

How about the track? I haven't seen anyone bring this up as a consideration
in changing to diesel. My wife's grandfather, a VGN/N&W section foreman/
roadmaster, told me that steam locomotives were really hard on track
particularly the rail. The steady pounding plus rigid wheel base were a
necessary evil eliminated by the traction motored truck.
