Mallet Engines on the Saltville Branch - When?

When did they rip up the rails and ties on the Saltville Branch...? Just curious...

  When I walked the Saltville branch in 1993 I noticed that the vast majority of the ties had 52 or 53 date nails in them, so that may have been part of the upgrade to allow for heavier tonnage.
