Mallet Engines on the Saltville Branch - When?

Hmmm okay. So we have one person who worked for the N&W for many years who
recollects they backed all the way to Pulaski from Galax, and another who
also worked for the N&W on the Galax line itself for many years who
recollects the Y's were turned at the wye at Fries Junction......
Anyone else have any sort of answer?
