Mallet Engines on the Saltville Branch - When?

For my 2 cents worth, I have walked to Fries Junction and I don't see where there was ever a wye track there. It would have required another trestle! The Galax leg heads south right over New River, so I don't see how there could have been a wye there at all, but maybe I'm wrong? If so, speak up.

Hmmm okay. So we have one person who worked for the N&W for many years who
recollects they backed all the way to Pulaski from Galax, and another who
also worked for the N&W on the Galax line itself for many years who
recollects the Y's were turned at the wye at Fries Junction......
Anyone else have any sort of answer?
