Aubrey,
The Lynchburg - Durham line was dieselized by four Alco RS-3 and four EMD GP-9 locomotives in the fall of 1955. According to Norfolk Division Timetables No. 11 Effective April 28, 1957, and No. 12 Effective January 1, 1958, the mixed trains, Nos. 71 and 72, operated until the end of 1957, over a year after the RS-3's went into service on the Durham line.

Chuck,
The Durham line mixed/passenger service was gone by the time the RS-3s arrived.
