The booklet, Coal and the Norfolk and Western Railway, which should be available through the Commissary, provides a map and list of all coal mines, circa 1929.  You might want to pick up a copy of this from the Society.

  changed owners and names between 1955 and 1959. I have a
  1959 stations and sidings book. Island Creek bought most of the
  Pond Creek Pocahontas mines and renamed them.
