It appears that this was a "pick up train," running lite out of Bristol and
picking up at Glade Spring, Pulaski and Radford.
Record indicates that 40 cars were picked up at Glade Spring, of which 5 were
s/o at Radford, one [Erie 94274, load of wood] was set off at Groseclose with
a hot box, and the balance were taken to Roanoke. Twelve cars p/u at
Pulaski, of which 7 were s/o at Radford and the balance taken to Roanoke. Ten cars
were p/u at Radford, of which one was s/o Vicker (N&W 40129, load
merchandise,) six were s/o at Christiansburg, one was s/o at Elliston, and two were s/o
at Salem.
There are many calculations made in the margins of the pages for this date...
Grandfather was figuring his tonnages ! "1300 east G, 695 off at G,"
"31-9, 1995 tons," "21 loads and 7 mtys 1300 tons," "10 L 2 mty," "431 off E,"
"159 off D." ("G" was the station number for Glade Spring, "E" for Pulaski,
and "D" for Radford.)
