Here is an N&W trivia question. In the coalfields where lines split and re-split to serve coal mines in various hollows, what was the N&W's terminology for a branch line off of a branch line off of a branch line?

Answer: One example in the N&W's April 1, 1972, "List of Stations and Sidings" involves the lines to the coal mine at Wenonah, WV, which was located on the East Prong of the West Fork of the Bluestone - Widemouth Branch. Most places on the N&W the final branch would be called a "Spur," but in this one case it was called a "Prong," at least in the Station and Sidings book.
