Matewan Question

The quad on historical.maptech is 1909 updated to 1928 but it does not have
any indication of whether the rail line continued to the east portal. The RR
arrived in 1892, so need a chart between '92 and '09.

Send me the USGS quad name that covers the area of interest and what time
period you are looking at. This willl help me pick out the correct edition
[map date] if one is close to the dates you need. I will go down stairs
from my office and look in the USGS historical map file. Unless someone has
stolen the map(s) from the library, I can make a monochrome copy on the
large format copier. If you need it in color, I can try to scan it and
create a relatively high-res jpeg and burn it on a CD.

BTW, I work at the USGS HQ in Reston, VA.

There was a question about one week ago concerning track arrangements at two
locations in WV. Didn't save the item. Was looking at map sources tonight
trying to answer my own question about Matewan and remembered one source
which I don't think has been noted in the group. Try either maptech.com or
historic.maptech.com. Limited number of old USGS maps; found some pre -1900
maps for something I'm doing in NJ. Didn't help me with Matewan, though;
only available map is 1928.
