What happened to Va&T RR engine # 7?

That is Class G1 No. 7. This was modified to appear similar to a
locomotive of 1852 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of
the original V&T into Roanoke on November 1. After the celebration, the
fancy dress and lettering were removed returning No. 7 to its more
modern apperance. No. 7 does indeed survive today, somewhat poorly, on
display at Bluefield with an N&W hopper both in need of work.
