Jim,

I believe that grouping by era would be preferable.  While I
am not a modeler, I have observed that modelers tend to
concentrate on a particular time frame and I think that
modelers would prefer having a ready source for everything
(structures, locomotives, stations, etc.) relative to the era
being modeled.  I also believe that historians would prefer a
reference source that is logically grouped by era.

My two cents worth.
