Re:  Bud Jeffries' explanation of ratio of tender load to dead  weight.  
Another reminder of how well N & W attended to details.   A ratio of 1.8 vs. 
others in the same era with ratios of 1.2 to 1.5 ?   Makes me wonder if guys at the 
top of the 'others' were paying  attention.
 
Similar to discussion I sometimes encounter regarding N & W's A vs. the  
Challenger Class of UP, etc.  Very similar capability, driver diameter,  wheel 
arrangement.  So what's the big deal about N & W, Jerry ?   The A did it with 
100,000 pounds less gross weight.
