 Jim,

   I used the term "master" having seen it in Paul Withers' 2004-2005 NS Locomotive Directory. He does not list an 858 so that is why I assumed that it is a new slug (not a slave?). 
   He illustrates 850 and notes it being built to operate with 3821. (Poetic image of the SD38-2 attached.)
