Combine #1506

NCTM acquired the 1506 from Old Dominion just over two years ago for 
exactly what it has been restored for; a handicapped access car for 
their train ride. I do not know the details of the acquisition from Old 
Dominion, but I know the car had been out of service with them for many 
years and was no longer needed.

This is way off N&W topic here, but I will respond regardless, since 
three of the Roanoke cars are ex N&W.

In regards to the Roanoke Chapter NRHS cars, three coaches, ex-N&W 537, 
512 and 1827 (ex-Wabash) are at Spencer, on the way there (last report 
was on CSX at Rocky Mount, North Carolina, are two more Chapter cars; 
dinette-dormitory No. 1148 (ex Great Northern, and round-end 
observation No. 3305 (ex Illinois Central). The N&W mail storage car 
No. 1407, last used behind 611 and 1218 as a tool car remains in 
Cumberland at this writing, it will be returned to Roanoke.

The report that Mr. West heard about the Chapter losing its storage 
space is incorrect, the Chapter's siding space is still in use, and has 
the capacity. With the Chapter's long standing good relationship with 
Spencer, they needed some air-conditioned cars for use on their trains, 
the cars are not being stored at Spencer, but serve a useful purpose, 
and give them an all-N&W tuscan train set. Spencer is essentially 
paying for the movement of the cars from Western Maryland Scenic to 
Spencer and eventually back to Roanoke in exchange for use of the cars. 
The three coaches have been in place for just about a year now. We felt 
that the cars being in use was far more appropriate and better for 
their long term preservation than sitting inactive in Roanoke.
