Photo of the 1218 in Roanoke, 1971

While I do not have a definitive answer, I was able to narrow it down.
The photo of the 1218 is stated to be May 1, 1971 and the canopies 
are still in place.
In the Archives hangs a photo of locomotive 1776 sitting at the 
Roanoke station dated May 4, 1974. The platform canopies are gone in 
this photo.
Therefore, the canopies were removed sometime between these two dates.
Further research may shrink this timeframe further.
