Builder's photos of N&W locomotives had link-and-pin couplers through 1898, 
1899 deliveries had knuckle couplers. However, this critter had both air 
brakes and knuckle couplers, delivered probably in the early 1890s. 
Passenger equipment was commonly fitted with both well before they were 
applied to freight cars.
