Many years ago one of the rail magazines had a photograph of some of the 
testing done for rail buckling. The shot was taken as extreemely high voltage was 
applied to the rails, the track buckled violently and the ballast was flying 
all over the place. It was a very dramatic shot. If I happen across the photo 
again as I purge my magazines I will post the issue it was in.
