The mechanical drawings for the bell mount under the left steps was dated 1953. The drawing also included the classes K2 and K2a in application of the bell mount.

600-610 were built with swinging bells in a recess of the boiler top shroud. 611-613 were built with rigid mount bells in the same location. Because they didn't swing, the shroud muted the sound, so they were moved to the location under the left steps. Don't remember just when, but shortly after they were built in 1950. Not much later, 600-610 received the same rigid mount bells in the under step location. Jim Nichols
Furthermore, when were the bells on top of the J's relocated to underneath the back of the pilot? Had the bells on the top of the boiler been the swinging type or the same type as that currently on 611. Did 611 ever have it's bell located on the boiler top or was the bell always in it's current position?
