Railroad Notes
Norfolk, Va. Feb. 1 "We have every reason to expect success," said
President R.A. Wainwright of the "200,000" League, when seen in
regard to the movement to secure a union depot in the city. "I have
not appointed a committee yet and will not do so until tonight. In
this case we are after the men who are not looking for glory, but who
can manage the affair successfully. There will have to be
concessions on the part of the city, I think rights of way and other
matters but I feel personally certain that we can secure a union
depot for the city. How many roads will come into it is something I
cannot tell at present, but we feel assured that the Norfolk and
Western, the Norfolk and Southern and the Tidewater will agree to the
proposition."
President W.T Anderson, of the Board of Trade, is also an
enthusiastic supporter of the proposition. When he names the various
committees of his organization next Saturday he will appoint a
committee for this purpose. In conversation he stated that every
business man he had talked with was in favor of a union depot and was
willing to cooperate in the effort to secure one.
