The joint N&W/L&N/IRR passenger station at Norton is no longer standing.
Photos of that station and the N&W/L&N freight station (later also used
as a passenger station) as well as a description of N&W operations in
the Norton area can be found in the article Bucky Wilson and I wrote on
the Clinch Valley Line and printed in The Arrow, Vol. 20, issues 2, 3,
and 4 (March/April, May/June and July/August of 2004).

Norton, Va., March 14

Work on the new union passenger depot for Norton will be begun in
a few days. The Norfolk and Western and Louisville and Nashville
railroads have agreed upon plans for the building and the Norfolk and
Western Company has appropriated the money for the work. This is a
much needed improvement, as the present accommodations are almost a
disgrace to the town, or to the railroad company rather.
The contract has been let for the grading of the Interstate
Railroad from Blackwood to Norton, and the work will be begun at
once. This road will connect Norton with Blackwood, Applachia, Osaka
and Stonega, and a branch already constructed known as the Roaring
Fork Railroad, extending several miles up Roaring Fork of Powell's
river, is now in operation connecting Blackwood with the new mining
and coking town of Roaring Fork.
It is believed that the Interstate road will be a part of the
Southern Railway system, connecting at Appalachia, as it does, with
the Virginia and Southwestern Railroad, now part of that system. This
new road will give Norton a southern outlet, opening up a southern
market for the coal, coke and timber of the great Wise county fields.
