Thanks, Ned.  I wonder how the $7 million will be
used.  That's a pretty ambitious amount in what is
turning out to be a recession economy.  It's also
interesting to observe how much more successful a
start-up museum is versus the already-established VMT.

Foundation awards $125,000 to Portsmouth railroad
museum

The Beazley Foundation has awarded a $125,000 grant to
help build a Railroad Museum of Virginia in
Portsmouth.

The museum grant is contingent on a Portsmouth-based
nonprofit raising the amount needed to match $300,000
in state funding. The Railroad Museum of Virginia Inc.
plans to raise $7 million during a three-phase capital
campaign.

Donated rail cars that have been refurbished are to be
used in conjunction with a 15,000-square-foot visitor
center.

The award was among more than $1.2 million in grants
approved at a recent meeting.
