Damage to Tracks Not Great
The damage to the tracks of the Norfolk & Western in West Virginia by
the recent heavy rains which caused a number of slides has about been
repaired and trains are now running into the city on the regular schedule.
Considerable inconvenience has been experienced by the delay in freight
from the west, but it is now coming in and the situation is relieved. There
a has been a greater scarcity of fresh meat on the market during the past
week than for any time in years. Very few cattle from the country have been
received and the shipments of western meat has been held up by the slides.
Several cars are expected today and by Monday there will be plenty of meat
of every description. Good beef has sold very high during the past week.
