New Trains

Bristol, Tenn., Sept. 3. -- Special -- It is being talked in railroad
circles here that the Norfolk & Western and Southern railroads are
soon to put on new and additional fast trains between Chattanooga and
Washington by way of Bristol, trains that will have a faster schedule
than has yet been inaugurated, and which will carry all modern
conveniences, including dining car service, parlor cars, etc.
It is intimated that such a thing may come about in retaliation of
the action taken by North Carolina in forcing a two-cent rate. The
talk along this line is that with the inauguration of the fast trains
by the Virginia route, the fast trains now running through North
Carolina are to be taken off and North Carolina is to be given a
simple coach service, without dining car service.
The railway officials are said to be in the proper temper on
account of the action of Governor Glenn to make such changes as are suggested.
The route from Chattanooga to Washington by way of Bristol is the
most direct, but for many years the Southern has made the Asheville
route its favorite for the reason that it gave the company the entire
haul without the necessity of dividing profits with the N. & W.
