REALLY AN IMPORTANT SPUR OF THE WABASH

What Railway Officials at Portsmouth Think of the Tidewater

Portsmouth, Va.  April 2 -- Railway officials in Portsmouth say that the Tidewater Railway Company of which Mr. William N. Page of Ansted, W. Va., is president, is really the most important spur of the Wabash system.

It is well known that Mr. George J. Gould, president of the Wabash has intended all along bringing his great system to this port, and it now appears that this will undoubtedly be done through the agency of the Tidewater Railway.

The terminal on the new line will be located in Portsmouth.  President Page has written to Secretary I. T. Van Patten of the Portsmouth Business Men's Association a letter in which he practically announces the determination of his road to come to Portsmouth.  In view of the fact that there is in the hands of local people other information direct from the officials of the Wabash stating that their line is leaving the question of acquisition of terminals hereabouts in the hands of other agents, it is believed that the entrance of the Wabash into this port is assured.

Washington, April 2 -- Notwithstanding the opposition of several systems it is probable that Mr. George J. Gould will succeed in gaining an entrance into Portsmouth, Va., for the Wabash railway.  Mr. Gould has been exerting every energy to perfect arrangements for terminals in an Atlantic seaport, especially Portsmouth.
