Surveying Route for Norfolk and Western
A force of surveyors is on Ben Creek near Wharncliffe in Mingo County, and it is said that they are surveying a route for the Norfolk and Western to cut off the Chesapeake and Ohio on the Guyan River.

[The 2.99-mile Ben Creek spur was not constructed until 1942 according to the N&W Annual Report for that year. The name Guyan River is one of several variations of Guyandotte River according to Wikipedia}
