TRAINS DOUBLE

In Order That Christmas Travel May Be Handled

   Some of the trains on the Norfolk and Western railroad have been 
doubled for several days past in order that the Christmas rush may be 
taken care of. No. 3, which arrives here in the afternoon from 
Norfolk, has a second section all the way to Roanoke, and when the 
second section arrives here, it becomes No. 17 and continues as such 
to Bluefield. There are also two sections of No. 4, which leaves here 
early in the afternoon for Norfolk. Several special trains have been 
run in order to accommodate schools. A special was sent out to 
Hollins to bring in the young ladies, and a special containing a big 
crowd of cadets from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, reached the 
city Friday night.
   There has been for several days an immense amount of travel out 
the city to Franklin and Henry counties. A large number of citizens 
of Roanoke came from these two counties, and a goodly portion of them 
always spend Christmas at their old homes. Hence the heavy travel. It 
is stated that the baggage handled on the Winston-Salem division for 
several days has been something immense.
