VGN Morri Branch

I don't pretend to know much about the Virginian.  I know very little in fact.  But, I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions about the Morri Branch.  I was wondering when it was built.  Also, I'm curious as to why they signalled the branch.  It is signalled to Oceana, with a control point at Plunkett, but why?  Also, my railroad atlas shows a wye at Plunkett.  I can't tell that one was ever there.  Where was it?
