Gary,
You might remember meeting me on the excursion to Charlottesville in October. I too vividly remember the Pelican running through my home town of Wytheville, VA and spent a great deal of time in Rural Retreat. I would love to get back and see the old station up there. I recently went to the Wytheville station to relive some fond memories of my parents taking me to the station after church every Sunday to watch trains. We also listen to the recording every year and many times between. Happy New Year and looking forward to the 2008 excursions.
Dan Winter

My children refuse to even go to bed on Christmas Eve until I have read them the "Polar Express" while the sounds of O. Winston Link's recording at Rural Retreat plays in the background. It has become a family tradition that we all enjoy.
Living so close to Rural Retreat, this recording takes me on a personal journey as I can imagine this very train only minutes before sitting at the depot preparing to leave my hometown of Marion, Va. on its journey eastward toward Rural Retreat and into fame.
