FLUES ON ENGINE BURSTED
------
Fireman and Brakeman Injured by Jumping
------
Just this side of Tazewell yesterday morning the flues in a freight engine bursted [sic] and the escaping steam forced the flames from the door of the firebox. Fireman Gilbert and Brakeman Ashbrook jumped to escape being burned, and both sustained painful injuries. They were brought to this city on No. 16 yesterday afternoon and Mr. Ashbrook was able to walk to his home, but Mr. Gilbert had to be carried. It was found that the latter's back had been sprained, though the sprain is not a serious one.

[Apparently the engineer had asbestos underwear and stayed in the cab.]
