ALMOST A FATAL WRECK
------
Drive Wheels of Passenger Engine Left Track Near Steep Embankment
------
Passenger train No. 1, due here at 1:35 p. m. was an hour and a half late yesterday. The delay was due to the engine being derailed just this side of Bedford City on the Lynchburg division. The train was going rapidly when the drive wheels of the engine left the rails and ran for some distance on the cross ties. The accident occurred at a heavy fill, and it is said that, had the wheels made only a few more revolutions, the engine would have plunged down a steep embankment and doubtless pulled the entire train with it.
