Roanoke Times - January 25, 1908
A citizen of Hinton, who has been closely identified with the
plans of the Virginian railway, formerly styled the
Deepwater-Tidewater, to reach the rich coal fields, declared in
positive terms that the Virginian railroad would be built through
West Hinton just as soon as financial conditions improved
sufficiently to provide funds. This extension will be from the mouth
of East River on the main line from Deepwater to Norfolk, to the
Piney coal fields via West Hinton and Prince.
The citizen himself sold the charter and rights of way over this
route secured by him for a railroad line, to the Virginian people,
and is entirely familiar with their plans for developing this
important territory.
The Pennsylvania Lumber Co. has built a lumber road down Bluestone
river to its mouth, five miles above Hinton on New river, and this
road has been tendered the Virginian to operate, which they will
shortly accept, building their line on through from the mouth of
Bluestone to the Raleigh coal fields at once, and later complete the
link between the mouths of Bluestone and East river. -- Bluefield Telegraph
