RAILROAD CONTRACTOR TAKES TO TALL TIMBER

    O. M. Page, a railroad contractor on the Norfolk & Western branch near Yorkville, has absconded, leaving a total indebtedness of between ten and twelve thousand dollars.  Among those to whom Page in indebted is the firm of Hagen, Ratclift & Company, of Huntington, from whom he had bought provisions for his commissary.
    Page absconded last Friday night from Kenova, where he had gone Friday.  He was missed Sunday morning and as his bed at the hotel had not been disturbed, it was at once surmised that he had skipped.  On investigation it was learned that he had disappeared from Kenova early Friday night.
    There is no clew [sic] as to where Page went, but it is supposed that he is headed for Canada, where his wife now is.
    Steps were taken at once by Page's creditors to attach his grading tools and thereby save the amounts which he owes them.
    It is estimated that his property, consisting of grading tools, etc., will amount to about eight thousand, and as it will be promptly seized by his creditors, not much will be lost by them.  Page owes his workmen for wages for both July and August.  The amount in wages is almost eight thousand dollars, the greater part of his debt.

[This construction on a "branch" would likely have been the Big Sandy low grade line between Naugatuck and Kenova.  Anyone know where Yorkville is, or was?]
