Deepwater in 1905 -- Guyandot River Line

Agreement Admitted to Record in Mingo Throws Light on Subject

    An agreement has been filed with the county clerk of Wyoming and Mingo counties which indicates which way the Deepwater Railway will run from this county [Mercer County].  In the agreement C. Crane & Co. convey to the Deepwater Railway company right of way through all their lands located in the two counties, beginning at the mouth of Barker's Creek [near Elmore, WV] in Wyoming and extending to the mouth of Gilbert Creek [at Gilbert, WV] in Mingo county, a distance of more than fifty miles.  Crane & Company have tracts at various points along the line and the instruments filed convey right of way through each of these several tracts.  The consideration is given at $125.00 per acre and all mineral rights are reserved by the grantors.

[This seems to indicate that the backers of the Virginian had their eyes on the Guyandot River line in 1905 even though it would be 1933 before it was completed.]
