CUBA MUSEUM CAR
Will Be Exhibited in This City (En Route From Jamestown)
The Exposition car, "Cuba on Wheels," which represents the
Merchants, Manufactures, and department of Agriculture of Cuba, and
which has been in the grounds of the Jamestown Exposition will be on
exhibit in Roanoke for ten days (April 1st to 10th) on Norfolk &
Western tracks. It will be open daily from 10 o'clock in the morning
until 10 o'clock at night.
The car itself, is an especially built Pullman palace car, painted
red, white and blue, (the colors of Cuba), and inside is found a
"trip to Cuba" by means of innumerable exhibits from the island.
These exhibits include agricultural products, showing the soil of
Cuba, and the various fruits and other products grown; the minerals,
manufactured articles, such as banana flour and banana coffee,
cigars, shoes, furniture, dress goods of pineapple fibre, candies,
fans of real lace, gold and mother of pearl valued at $11; woods as
ebony, mahogany and fifty other kinds; scenery of Cuba - (photos
taken by government photographer) valuable oil paintings; fish and
game, and under miscellany exhibits come "Under the Bamboo Tree,"
cocoanut in bloom, tortoise, alligators, (alive), Cuban monkeys,
(alive), bull fight scenes JaiAlai Basket (used in playing the Cuban
ball game), money used before the war, fancy work by Cuban women,
drawn work, fish scale, jewelry, Cuban cook stove and kitchen
utensils, Cuban bread, etc. Under fish and and game is shown the
tarpon, weighing 130 pounds, the porcupine, fish, sea turkeys,
iguana, which is eaten by Cubans, etc.
Last, but not least, are relics from the wrecked battleship
"Maine," certificates being placed in the cases to show that they are genuine.
Remember this is a foreign exhibit from across the water that will
never come to our city again, and you cannot afford to miss it, for
it is the best possible substitute for a trip to the Island of Cuba.
It is of commercial interest to business men, educational to school
children, and entertaining for ladies. There are ladies on board the
car. The manager is Mr. W. H. Ramseur, a North Carolinian who has
charge of the North Carolina Rolling Exposition server years ago.
Miss Mima Richardson, of Chicago, is the newspaper representative for Cuba.
