Upon further comparison of Photo 7 with the other photo that I referred to, I realized that they were taken at different times, because the latter had some snow on the ground. Accordingly, please disregard my speculation about a turnout exaggerating the number of rails, as well as the date and locomotive number that I gave.
I apologize for this oversight on my part.

Subject: [VirginianRailwayEnthusiasts] Virginian Elect. Photo 7
As stated before, the Electric Railroaders' Association of New York has produced a series of CD's with copyrighted images from the ERA's Sprague Library depicting electric streetcars, interurbans, and locomotives. The attached photo is the seventh one on the VGN that I have posted from the Deep South Traction, Part 1 CD.
This picture of a VGN EL-C electric locomotive was obviously made on the GE test track at Erie, PA. Another photo on this CD appears to be the same locomotive at the same spot, and it shows the number to be 175 and the date to be January 20, 1957.
The GE test track was equipped to accommodate locomotives of several gauges although the other photo on the CD indicates that this photo was make where a turnout exaggerated the number of rails. Can anyone document how many different gauges are on this test track?
Incidentally, in June 1957 while I was in the Army and working at the Army Signal Research and Development Laboratories at Fort Monmouth, NJ, I traveled to Erie to run radio interference tests on a multi-gauge, multi-coupling, light-weight diesel locomotive that GE had just built for the Army Transportation Corps. While I was there, I was fortunate to ride up and down the test track depicted in the attached photo.
