Norfolk and Western to Build Another Cut Off
------
It is said that the Norfolk and Western will soon put a corps of engineers out to survey that section of Pulaski county lying between Belspring and Pulaski with a view of joining their railroad between those points.
According to the same report the object of this move is to turn all trains with coal and freight for southern points over this branch and save the haul around by Walton and Radford. This cut-off would save at least ten miles of haul and much time.
The proposed branch road would, if built, no doubt leave the New River road near the mouth of Back Creek and follow that stream as far as possible and on to Pulaski. It would improve [blurred; best interpretation shown] the operations of the Belle Hampton Coal Co. and this company is making very large improvements to its plant and perhaps expects one such move by railroad people.

[Did the N&W really survey this cut-0ff? The reporter's initial phrase, "It has been said...." may be a clue that the cut-off was just a rumor.]
