1958 - Hole Through Made in Tunnel Near Carbo

The Sandy Ridge Tunnel, longest on the N&W while in use, is no  longer in 
service and the entrances have been bricked over.  We made  reference to this 
bore in the series on the Clinch Valley Line done with Paul  Mandelkern back in 
2003-04.  I have pictures of Messers Gillum & Bowers  standing in front of the 
closed east portal in 2003 during our research  efforts.
