Well, a DC motor will produce maximum tractive effort at stall, but
how long before something burns out? I'm impressed.
I wonder at what low speed point point that the savings in fuel,
etc., cease to make up for the extended crew time and the tieing up
of the RR. With Diesel approaching $5 a gallon I guess that point is
pretty slow.

Well below that if rail conditions are good. NS routinely uses two
C40-9Ws (or as I call them Crap9s) to take 170-180 MTYs up C'burg
hill... they'll slow to less than 2.5mph and still pull.
