Last N&W diesel heading to scrap

According to Robb, the 8551 was the last diesel delivered to N&W
specifications under a contract issued before the merger.
The unit was one of the first delivered in NS paint.
I share Robb's frustration in not having enough funds to save
everything of historical significance.
Right now, the VMT is struggling to save itself, much less the 8551
or the lost locomotives 1151, 1118 and 1134. Unlike its peers in NC,
PA and CA, the VMT is totally dependent upon private donations and
admission fees.
If everyone on this mailing list pledged $128 each, we'd have the
$65K needed to save 8551.
