FIRST TRIP FATAL
------
Walter Drake Meets Death Beneath Father's Overturned Engine
------
Walter Drake of Portsmouth, Ohio, aged 21 years, met death Monday beneath his father's overturned engine three miles east of Peebles, O. Only last week young Drake gave up his position as clerk in the yard office of Portsmouth to go on the road, and it was upon the first trip over the division, which he was making with his father, Engineer Dan Drake, one of the oldest engineers of the Cincinnati district, that he met so untimely a death. The accident, which rolled six cars with the engine into the ditch, is believed to have been caused by a broken wheel. Engineer Drake and Fireman Greniger [blurred; best interpretation shown] escaped injury by jumping. The young victim also leaped for safety, but was caught beneath the wreckage.
