Business Picking Up
------
Business on the Norfolk & Western through Graham during the past week was the heaviest since the first flurry of the financial depression last fall, and almost double what it has been for any previous week during the summer. Heavy coal trains from the Flat Top field passed the tower every few minutes during the afternoons and in the mornings long trains of empties were sent into Elkhorn and Widemouth districts. Business on the Clinch is also improving and from the number of miners and laborers that are returning to work at the operations all along the line it is believed the shipments from Southwest Virginia will within a few weeks again have reached the old high standard of prosperity during 1907.
Practically all of the extra railroad men have been given employment, and positions in certain branches of the service are open to new men. All of those now employed are making good time and receiving good wages.
