A little note of events at dinner at the Country Cooking.
we had the following present.
Ernie Hubble
Tom Victory
Raymond East
Wes Sowder
Ronnie Victory
Mac McLain
Landon Gregory
A lady stopped by to speak to Tom and Raymond. Understand she is the
wife of a VGN conductor. Her name is Billy DeHart.
Ernie Hubble talked about the E-mail titled "Using Common Sense". Pretty
good.
Tom and Raymond telling tale of a Vgn Condr. Grover Flint who was also a
big fan of Softball and Baseball, and also a pretty good player and
manager. Anyway he and Jim Doss were taking a little break from work one
day, with Jim Doss standing up with his lantern tucked under his arm and
just kinda of relaxed and taking a little snooze and Grover pulled his
hat off and threw it on the ground.
Wes reports as he was coming on to 221 there was a bad wreck, seems a
couple of vehicles ran head on, don't know if any injuries or not.
We heard the Ambulance and Fire Trucks go passed the Country Cookin'.
Raymond telling story about one day he was working as fireman and Ralph
Good was engineer and Raymond Kessler was the brakeman and while they
were in Wasena Park near the Low Water Bridge an auto hit curb and
turned over into the river. Lady in auto taken to Hospital and later died.
Ronnie and Wes talking about working in GOB, Wes said he stayed on the
bottom of the Seniority list the whole 36 years he was working. He said
he finally got a chance to work in the General Office and establish his
Seniority. Some clerk from out west somewhere would come to Roanoke and
bump him.
Mac came in with several of his jokes, all pretty good.
I believe that is about all and hope this will give you something to
send out.
I am not very good at secretarial work.
Landon Gregory
