IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Capt. Alvis Still Alive
Capt. Dan K. Alvis, a freight conductor on the Norfolk & Western, well known in Bluefield, who was reported shot and killed while ejecting a bunch of hoboes from this train, is still alive but in a very serious condition. The shooting took place near Naugatuck. The ball entered the left side of the conductor's face, ranged slightly downward and lodged in the back of the neck. It was at first thought that he was dead, hence the report that reached Bluefield. Capt. Alvis is now in the Y. M. C. A. hospital at Williamson. His home is at Ceredo.

[A YMCA hospital? In the previous day's article the newspaper gave his name as Dan Albers.]
