Dressler entitled Norfolk and Western's Remarkable 4-8-0's. I found this

Thank you for your answer sir.

I don't see much about the subject, but It seems that the class"M"
locomotive was the common work horse even after the mallets were introduced,
I assume mostly on branch lines.
