I think all the forces those engines put on couplers would destroy the
cushioning mechanics.
Cushioning is put on cars that may carry more fragile stock.
Lump coal doesn't need that. The A, at least my BLI model has a
rotateable hideable coupler, and was not designed for the pusher service
than for more the lighter leveler grades and higher speed running,
sometimes ran passenger.
