STATION CROWD SEES WOMAN INSTANTLY KILLED
------
Mrs. Ollie Hodge Run Down by Engine at Northfork Only Short Distance >From Her Home
Mrs. Ollie Hodge was killed at Northfork yesterday noon, in full view of a number of people who were just leaving the station after watching train No. 4 arrive and leave. The woman had been at the station and when No. 4 pulled out she started to cross the track only to walk directly in front of an extra engine which was backing down to the coal wharf. She was knocked down, run over and killed just west of the Northfork station and but a short distance from her home, which was at Powhatan.
A large crowd gathered about the scene of the accident and the railroad authorities and officers quietly came in, gathered the remains and took them away so that an inquest could be held. Afterwards the remains were taken to the woman's home.
The accident was like hundreds of others which occur daily in the coal field where people will walk the tracks without watching out for oncoming trains.
------
[No. 4 should have been in Roanoke about noon. No. 2 was scheduled to be at Northfork about noon.]
