Wonder if these occurrences had anything to do with the N&W establishing a formal Safety Program in 1912?

TRAIN KILLS TWO
------
Colored Men at Work With Section Force Run Over
Yesterday morning about 9 o'clock train No. 85 broke in two near Roderfield, and while backing up to pick up the cars which had been lost, backed over two section men who were at work and did not see the train coming upon them. The victims were Jim Coles and J. Keiser, and both were killed instantly. The men, who were colored, lived at Wilmore although their homes were at Prospect, Va.
------
[This makes six N&W employees' deaths reported by the Bluefield newspaper as occurring in the twelve days, December 1 thru 12. The Bluefield newspaper did not publish many railroad items occurring east of Roanoke, so it is not known whether there were other employee deaths on the eastern end during this period. Stay tuned for two more employee fatalities and four mail clerk fatalities that occurred later this same month, December 1910.]
